About Alan Watts

Alan Wilson Watts was born on 6 January 1915 and died on 16 November 1973. He is best known as an interpreter and populariser of Eastern philosophy for a Western audience. His philosophies seem to transcend ego, politics, and limitations.

On Existence

"Existence - the physical universe, is basically playful. There is no necessity for it whatsoever. It isn't going anywhere, that is to say, it doesn't have some destination that it ought to arrive at."

Individuals

"Every individual is a unique manifestation of the Whole, as every branch is a particular outreaching of the tree."

Life Purpose

If you say that money is the most important thing, you’ll spend your life completely wasting your time: You’ll be doing things you don’t like doing in order to go on living, that is, in order to go on doing things you don’t like doing — which is stupid!

Nirvana

Nirvana is right where you are, provided that you don't object to it.
